To the EU Commission and all European governments:

As global citizens deeply concerned about the future of elephants, we call on you to adopt a full ban on ivory exports, and a full domestic trade ban. A ban on exporting raw ivory is not enough -- the future of the species is in jeopardy and shouldn't be overruled by niche economic interests.

20,000 elephants are killed each year -- their face hacked to bits by machetes for their ivory. It's madness, but there's never been a more hopeful moment to stop it.

Blood ivory is illegal -- but as long as there are legal ivory markets, poachers have endless loopholes to sell the products of their slaughter. For years governments have used China's giant market as an excuse -- if they stayed open, that was that.

Now everything's changed -- China just announced they'll shut down their entire ivory trade.

This is an incredible opportunity. EU ministers are about to meet on Europe's next steps on ivory, giving us a crucial chance to keep this momentum going, and champions like Germany and Luxembourg already want a total ban. Let's give them the support of millions around the world, and take the next giant step to save elephants for good.
