EU: Healthy meals for our school children
To EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides, to the European Commission and the EU member states:
We urge you to enforce healthy school meals and nutritional literacy for every child, in every school in the EU, as the minimum standard for the EU Farm to Fork strategy. Every child has the right to a balanced diet for a healthy development and to be able to participate in class with focus. Healthy school meals are beneficial for both people and the environment. Paired with nutritional literacy, school children can learn to eat and cook healthily - while using food responsibly. Thus, schools become hubs for sustainable nutrition. Small plate, big impact!

Many of us are feeling the pinch and countless parents are struggling to provide the best care for their children, which includes feeding them healthy and balanced meals.
But now we have an opportunity to call on the EU Commission to help: Soon EU member states could ensure that every child in every school in the EU receives a healthy, sustainably produced school lunch and that our youngest are taught early-on about what constitutes a balanced diet.
But in order to make this happen, the Commission needs to hear from us. Let’s ramp up the pressure and make our demands clear: No child should have to sit in school on an empty stomach or be forced to live on junk food - we demand access to healthy, balanced school meals for all children.
