Free Betty

To Mohammed VI, King of Morocco and António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations :

The prosecution and imprisonment of Ibtissame “Betty” Lachgar for peaceful expression violates Morocco’s human rights obligations and constitutes arbitrary punishment against dissent, feminist activism, and LGBTI+ rights. We demand you to act for her immediate release and urgent medical care.

Free Betty
An anonymous online mob threatened Ibtissame (“Betty”) Lachgar with rape and murder because she spoke out for women’s rights, and they pressured prosecutors to file charges.

Their hate campaign got her thrown in prison where she’s been isolated in solitary confinement for five months. She could lose an arm, literally, but still the authorities are denying cancer treatment.

So let’s be louder than the bullies. Let’s raise our voices for love, not hate. Let’s speak out for Betty and for the rights of women everywhere.

Because public pressure works both ways, and King Mohammad of Morocco has freed prisoners of conscience before when faced with a global outcry -- including a woman imprisoned for having an abortion.

Sign now and we’ll launch a massive global wave of social media pressure in concert with Moroccan human rights defenders – making sure our message reaches the palace:
