We, citizens of the world, call on you to reject the extension of AngloGold Ashanti’s exploration permit in Jerico, Colombia, a project that threatens vital ecosystems and the rights of local communities. This permission must not be granted to a company that has responded to peaceful protest with persecution, pressing charges of kidnapping and theft against 11 farmers who bravely defended their water and land.

In Colombia, a massive mining company could soon get a permit that would pave the way to tearing open a sacred mountain, dumping millions of tons of toxic waste into rivers, and forever scarring a region sustained by coffee and clean water.

The company, AngloGold Ashanti, isn't just threatening the land. They’re pressing charges of kidnapping and theft against 11 farmers -- the Jerico 11 -- for peacefully resisting their project. 86-year-old Don Porfirio is one of them.

Colombia could grant the permit any day now, giving the official seal of approval to AngloGold's destructive plans,.

But there's hope: the National Mining Agency has rejected similar permits in the past. And partners on the ground are calling for massive call to convince the agency do the right thing again and reject the company’s permit extension.
