For many years now developers have had a beady eye on an important bird area. Up until now the red zone (IUCN category 1a. Strict nature reserve) has been respected. Developers have now started to lie to government and run a corrupt EIA to try to secure this piece of land in the Dorob National Park. The land they want is the most important breeding area for a red data species and coastal flagship breeding endemic the Damara Tern. There are also up to 770 birds per kilometre of coastline here and the proposed development will completely change all this. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism in Namibia is responsible for giving environmental clearance. This they have not yet done. Greedy politicians are making press statements to the people that this will go ahead despite opposition from environmentalists and others.
