Concern Citizens of Union Island
On August 7th 2020 a public Notice was published in the Newspaper of an application to the physical planning and development Board for Greaves Investment Limited to construct a Petrol Station at Donaldson, Union Island. Donaldson extends to and ends at the boundary for the salt pond.
We have signed this petition in objection to the construction of the Petrol Station in Donaldson or any other area that drains int the Belmont Salt Pond.
We welcome construction of a petrol station on the island but not in the area. The Salt Pond is the oldest historic site on the island and must be preserved. It provides food in the form of salt and income when the salt harvested is sold. We believe that any fuel spillage whether small or large will eventually end up in the Salt Pond as water drains from Donaldson into the the salt pond, as it usually does. This will cause the salt to be unfit for consumption.
We object to this location for the Petrol Station.
