Our President: Lori Varlotta
Being in the class of 2022 at California Lutheran University has been anything but normal. From classes occurring virtually over zoom, to mask mandates, new protocols and missing 2 years of being on campus, we have overcome an exponential amount of struggles throughout our time at California Lutheran University. This is supposed to be a time of excitement and growth, however our experience was much different. As the pandemic comes to a close, so does our time at California Lutheran University. With all of this in mind it’s extremely hard to imagine celebrating our accomplishments in different city than from where we achieved them. As students, it does not feel right to be celebrating our accomplishments in Ventura and not in our own backyard, our Alma Mater. The place where we have achieved our goals as scholars and grown as members of society. We find it unfair that our new President, Lori Varlotta was able to hold her inauguration events on campus, unmasked. However, us, the students who have given years of our lives to this university, cannot hold our graduation ceremony safely here as well. Let our families cheer  us on in our stadium, as we have cheered for our sports teams in this same stadium this past year. As stated, before the pandemic is coming to a close, the mask mandate has been lifted, making it seem irrelevant to have our commencement ceremony at the Ventura County Fair Grounds. Our community and our students deserve better especially after everything we have ALL been through. Please take into consideration how monumental this celebration is to all of us and send us off with the graduation ceremony we deserve.
