We are concerned over the planned development to Bachelors Beach even though we admire and respect the design of our local architect. What we are against is that this development does not seem to take into account the interest of Bonaireans along with those of the resorts/tourism.

Bachelors Beach has always been a popular local beach. Every day there are 20 to 30 local and tourist cars parked there.  After the development, this will no longer be possible. Who will be restricted from the beach by this planned reduction of parking? The benefits to the local population must be protected and remain in place.

We are certainly not against a small, naturally focused facelift of Bachelors Beach. More shade-giving and beautifying plants and reliable stairs to the sea are certainly much-needed improvements. More cement we do not need, let’s keep it natural. Most other features in the design seem to all benefit the resorts and restrict the Bonaireans.

We suggest that such an amount of public money might better be spent dividing a smaller portion on a limited Bachelor’s Beach project while putting the rest of the (majority) monies toward making EEG Boulevard safe for residence, locals, and tourists.

We would like to hear from you regarding the current policy on public beaches and your plans for maintaining Bonaire’s natural beauty and culture.
