Declare emergency state in Bolivia to stop the Amazon's forest fires (wildlife in danger)
Maria H.
started this petition to
Evo Morales
We need the president of Bolivia to declare the state of emergency and to request helicopters to cease the fire in the Bolivian Amazon rainforest. Morales
believes that Bolivia doesn't need helicopters or international help to cease the fire in the amazon region
, even though more than
500'000 hectares of forest have been on fire for 16 days, affecting 6 million species of animals, plants, and insects.
Especially the
554 species
at the Tucavaca
Natural Reserve,
that are
endemic
to this specific
region and cannot be found in any other place in the world.
Those animals are probably entering the status of endangered species after these events.
Who is affected?
YOU. At an international level, the Amazon Forest is the world’s largest tropical rainforest, famed for its biodiversity and is popularly known as the ' Lungs of Earth ' due to its capability of absorbing about 25% of the earth's total carbon dioxide emission . It behaves similarly to a pair of human lungs , absorbing the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen.
At the local level:
More than 3'000 families are directly affected and 70% of the department of Santa Cruz (the region in Bolivia that provides most of the food for the entire country) is at risk of losing its productivity. Which means all Bolivian's food sovereignty and security is in danger.
Solution
1. The Bolivian government has to declare the country in state of emergency to request international help. The local authorities cannot declare emergency, it is a competency of the national government.
2. Request helicopters to cease the fire at the top of the mountains, Bolivian's firefighters do not have the equipment to reach the mountains or to protect themselves.
Bolivia does not have equipment such as helicopters,
special emergency tools or security equipment to enter the forest without putting the firefighter's lives in danger. We only have small firetrucks that cannot reach the top of the mountains.
3. Request the kind support of experienced firefighters from other countries. Bolivian firefighters need mentors who are experienced to manage emergencies in the forest, a situation for which they are not trained.
4. Request international funds and expertise to make sure the flora and fauna will be recovered. Remember that more than 6 million species of animals are affected, we need to ensure the animals of the Tucavaca National Reserve can be saved.
Remember this situation is affecting the entire Amazon rainforest and is now spreading to Brazil and Paraguay. Please sign and SHARE!
