Minister of Police, Bheki Cele
Brigadier Harri, who heads the Family Violence and Child Protection Unit in the Western Cape, is being subjected to ongoing victimisation and harassment.

Brigadier Sonja Harri has helped thousands of victims of Gender Based Violence. She has exemplified herself in the Police Service, where she has served and protected for over thirty years. Brigadier Harri has solved several high profile cases including the case of the brutal murder and rape of Anene Booysen.

This victimisation has been going on for over two years. It is to the extreme detriment of women and child victims of abuse in the Western Cape that it persists.

She has been charged with failure to attend a meeting, failure to provide documentation for assessments and failure to amend her performance contract. However, we believe that these charges are a ruse to hide the real reason for her victimisation, which is politically motivated.

Women and child victims of abuse in the Western Cape are suffering due to this situation which has gone on for a ridiculous amount of time. Brigadier Harri, whose duty it is to protect victims of abuse and violence, is herself a victim at the hands of her own colleagues. The conduct of these powerful male police officers in the Western Cape is unacceptable.

Minister Cele, we urge you not to allow this to persist any longer.

Brigadier Harri's disciplinary hearing is scheduled for 28 February 2019. We have no confidence that Brigadier Harri will be afforded a fair disciplinary process due to those involved in bringing the charges choosing the prosecutor of the investigation team and the presiding officer.

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) is demanding that the charges of misconduct against Harri be dropped. Provincial Secretary, Mncedisi Mbolekwa says the union believes their member is being victimised because of the infighting in the Western Cape SAPS. We believe her too.
