Alcohol is a harmful substance that's associated with more than 200 disease and injury conditions. Research consistently shows that young people who see more alcohol advertising start to drink alcohol at an earlier age and in larger volumes.
The evidence proves we cannot rely on the alcohol industry to protect young people. This is why we ask you to consider alcohol advertising in the same light as tobacco advertising and increase legal restrictions at the European level. An ideal place to start is the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD), which is currently being revised. The recently presented draft revision does not offer enough restrictions to effectively protect minors from alcohol advertising. Please consider our proposals at www.change-avmsd.eu and make a stance for public health.
