Oppose Coley Park Expansion Plans

Reading Borough Council - Planning Committee
Reading Council have announced plans to further increase the population of the already overcrowded Coley Park loop substantially. In recent years there have been major developments in the area giving rise to many extra homes with no increase in local facilities such as shops, doctors, schools etc. The area has a high population density at more than double that of the whole of the Minster ward, and has suffered major problems caused by council policies such as major rat infestations, sewage overloads, parking chaos etc. The citing of new homes in the area is totally unacceptable given the location and the on-going unresolved problems.
Other more appropriate sites have been identified however it appears RBC have either sold these for private development, have allocated the space for other schemes such as money making car parks or simply have not considered more appropriate sites.
The proposal is for "family homes" yet according to the councillors there is a much greater demand for one and 2 bedroom homes. This plan does not address the actual housing needs as identified by the council.
Planning permission must not be granted as it would be totally irresponsible to do so. It would add to the overcrowding, place further strain on already stretched infrastructure and not address the actual housing needs as identified by the council.
