Haux Haux Haux

We, the Huni Kuin Guardians of RJ, members of TXAI - Shamanic Traditions of Indigenous America, express our full support for our beloved Txai Siã Huni Kuin, José Osair Sales, Head Chief and leader of the Huni Kuin people, and clarify that he is absolutely INNOCENT of the crime to which he is being charged: international drug dealing.

In 2014 the artist Ernesto Neto, also a Huni Kuin Guardian, invited Chief Siã and other members of the tribe to participate in the exhibition HAUX HAUX in Germany. Siã participated in this exhibition and also at the AYA Conference in Ibiza, a world event on Ayahuasca, medicine that the Huni Kuin people have used for centuries. During this period, he gave several lectures regarding the Amazon and its importance to the world, how his culture can help finding new paths in the face of the great challenge of planetary transition.

Siã was remunerated for his participation in the Haux Haux exhibition, as well as various other events that on this tour of approximately two months in Europe, accounted for approximately 5,000 Euros. The tour is documented in news reports, films and also receipts of the values he received.

Arriving in Brazil, Chief Siã landed in São Paulo and waited some days to catch the cheapest return flight to Acre. In the meantime, he bought 39g of Cannabis Sativa in São Paulo for his personal use.A great leader of the Huni Kuin people, Chief Siã, an environmental activist and defender of the Amazon Forest, was wrongly accused of "international drug dealing". All because he was stopped by the Federal police in the city of Feijó, Acre, carrying a small amount of cannabis, which he declared to be for his own use. Checking his belongings the police found the sum of 4,200 Euros, result of the work he did in Europe. From this episode, the absurd thesis was created that the source of the money was from international drug dealing!

The decriminalization of cannabis was discussed in the Federal Supreme Court in 2015 but nothing was defined. In theory, users can not be arrested. However, since the amount of portability has not been defined, it is up to the federal police and the judge to decide. On March 19th, a first-instance conviction resulted in an unbelievable 10-year prison term for international drug dealing.

This is totally absurd, and part of the attack of brazillian corrupt politicians and farmers, whom are always trying to bring down indigenous leaderships to continue to destroy the forest for their own economic bennefit. We cannot let this happen! The Huni Kuin Guardians of RJ, toghether with many allies, are appealing to the good legal sense so that this sentence is revoked and Justice is reestablished.

For 13 years we have been working directly with the Huni Kuin people, our group was founded by Txana Bane Huni Kuin, Fabiano Sales, at the time when he lived in Rio de Janeiro to study cinema. From the fruits we know the tree: Txana Bane is the son of Chief Siã, as well as Leopardo Yawa Bane, who went to study in São Paulo and graduated in Social Sciences.

We know very well the moral standards of the great leader Siã, who has always fought for the Huni Kuin people, for the revival of their culture, the preservation of their traditional ways and customs and also for a sustainable life in the Amazon, in favor of a STANDING FOREST.The fact that his sons were pioneers in spreading the Huni Kuin amazonic culture in cities such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo attracted many to the Huni Kuin struggle for the sustainability of the people and the preservation of the Amazon.

CHIEF SIÃ IS INNOCENT !!!
