Ms Deirdre Forde, Public Liaison Officer,Wicklow County Council, Co Wicklow Ireland
Local authorities are proposing to build a six lane motorway through our 63 acre organic vegetable farm and native woodlands where endangered wildlife and insects thrive in this chemical free farm. The farm was the first certified organic in Ireland in 1983. The proposed "CYAN ROUTE" would devour it and several other small farms, homes, forests and archaeological sites. All destroyed forever, along with our livelihoods.
Ironically this proposed motorway would only serve to bring commuters to arrive at their usual gridlock five minutes sooner, is contrary to the latest governments climate action pledges and would cost billions of Euro to complete, using construction materials of high carbon footprint. Objectors are demanding the plans are scrapped and that the money be spent on proper adequate public transport, contraflow systems and incentives to carpool as 70% of Irish commuters elect to be single occupants in their cars. Please help us send them a global message that this 20th century thinking is not acceptable to us anymore and that sympathetic, modern and dynamic planning is required rather than pandering to the oil, motor and construction multinationals. With Love and gratitude Marc Michel and family of little farmers
