Oceanside Unified School District and members of Garrison Rey community/family
The Board has not shared their decision yet but we were able to make them see how many people want safety and equality for Garrison Rey. Thank you all for bringing these issues to people and spreading the awareness.

San Luis Rey and Garrison Elementary students seem to be waiting for a miracle to happen with their educational environment. For years both campuses were hoping and praying to be next in line for renovations to become modernized like all the other elementary schools around them. Instead, Garrison was shut down from sinks holes leaving them no choice but to attend San Luis Rey Elementary. Some community members believe that SLR is not an ideal school for their children because of its location. The neighborhood is not the problem, the neglect is. OUSD members have heard about the various issues that encompass this campus. Everyday our Sea Gators have to use restrooms that are nowhere near sanitary, sit underneath leaking and moldy ceilings, walk over wood pallets to try and avoid muddy water, be in classrooms that are infested with termites, and so much more. The campus itself is not up to safety code and that does not even include the homeless encampments that are surrounding the gates. The Board came up with four possible outcomes for these campuses; sell Garrison and do mini modernizations to SLR, sell SLR and do mini modernizations to Garrison, sell both campuses and send our students to other schools, or fix the storm drains at Garrison that could be done in 7 years. There is no guarantee that either school will actually get the necessary modifications done and if busing will be available to those that do not have transportation. We as a community must speak up and stand up for our young students at Garrison Rey so they can have the same educational experiences as other elementary schools in Oceanside, such as South O and Ivey Ranch. You can help get security guards back on campus, bring new playgrounds and classrooms to our students, give our students equal opportunity as unprivileged schools, or even have an entirely new campus made for them. You can help by siging this petition to give the students in our most vulnerable and underserved part of our community an equal opportunity to have access to adequate education, a safe and an up to code campus within the community that they reside in. We must stand united and demand that our District provides a safe and up to code educational environment for the young students by remodeling their campuses or building them a new school. You can help make their educational miracles happen. The children in our community deserve better.
