SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS

On a suspended campaign to the
candidacy for the presidency of the United States of America

Dear Bernie:

We hope and wish you and Jane
find yourselves in good spirits and health.

On April 30, 2015, when you
launched your candidacy at a press conference on Capitol Hill, you said:  “This country today, in my view, has more
serious crises than at any time since the Great Depression of the
nineteen-thirties.” Today, as we face the COVID-19-generated health and
economic crisis and the unprecedented nationwide unrest and protests sparked by
the murder of George Floyd, both have further served to evidence underlying
systemic problems, and we watch as the multiple national crises you spoke about
half a decade ago exponentially worsen.

The covid-19 emergency has put a
spotlight on the undeniable inequality and inequity in the access to health
care, education, and the income and wealth distribution in this our United
States of America. All these injustices were central issues that fueled both of
your campaigns, and under your leadership  they provided and provide the awakening call
of countless youth and the rest of Americans of all ages, who have and will
support you.

Without your presence as a
candidate the political discourse has gone stale. As things stand today, we are
offered a choice between a neofascist -̶
Donald Trump, and the furthering of appeasing neoliberal policies,
embodied by the lukewarm and uninspiring presumptive candidacy of Joe Biden. The
camel´s back is about to break, and we fear that a victory of either one of
these presidential candidates in November will result in unimaginable suffering
and perhaps the unthinkable in America, bloody insurrection.

About a year ago, on June 21,
2019 you attended and spoke at the Grassroots Fundraiser , in San
Francisco, saying, “I believe I am the strongest candidate to defeat Donald
Trump.” That is still true today. At that event, full of excitement and hope
for a new America, you urged us to think big and with your discourse lit
up the way, once again, to that clear path to the retaking of our
democracy.

There are moments in history that
the future of a people is defined by one man´s vision and untold courage, free
of the opinion of political pundits and advisers. These moments can open the
way to unfathomed and unforeseen futures. Dear Bernie, this is one of those
moments! In this precarious moment in our history, your presence and inspiring
clear voice is direly needed at the center stage of the national political
discourse.

Given all that we have mentioned
and much more that we have not, we respectfully urge that you reactivate your
candidacy and come to the rescue of our American ideal of a democracy of the
people, by the people, and for the people. We wholeheartedly believe that, in
these trying times, you are the only right man for the job, as the 46th
President of this, our United States of America!

Sincerely and respectfully,
