Gašenjem Malog salona novim naraštajima uskraćujemo važan a često i jedini izložbeni prostor u gradu.

Shaken by the irrevocable decision of the Croatian Radiotelevision, the country’s public broadcasting company and the owner of the spaces of Mali salon gallery, to convert the art gallery into a TV studio for the broadcasting of the ECC Rijeka 2020 programme and NOT TO restore its previous function afterwards, we invite you to join us in our plea that in 2021, after the ECC project is finished, the Croatian Radiotelevision renews the property lease agreement with the Rijeka Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. By shutting down Mali salon gallery, we are depriving the new generations of an important exhibition space, which is often the only exhibition space in the entire city.   In these times when public space is being stripped of its public function and togetherness, Mali salon gallery, in its pursuit of the objectives of art, is ever growing in importance. Mali salon gallery is specific for being located in Rijeka’s main pedestrian zone, and its orientation onto the street makes it a communicator and a medium, but also one of the city’s toponyms that remain imprinted in the collective memory. The European Capital of Culture programme is our opportunity to gain international visibility and present our culture, but our work continues after that. We think that removal of Mali salon gallery from the Croatian cultural life is a thoughtless act and we sincerely hope the Croatian Radiotelevision would realize that such decision would produce far-reaching, negative effects.
