Canada: Free Mohamed Fahmy
To Prime Minister Harper and Minister of Foreign Affairs Baird:
As citizens horrified by the 7 year jail term handed down to Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy, and his colleagues, we demand you take urgent action to fight for his release. Canada has a responsibility to protect citizens from injustice no matter where we are and your weak response up until this point has been unacceptable. Act now, finally, and bring Mohamed Fahmy home.

Mohamed Fahmy and his Al Jazeera colleagues were arrested for reporting on the protests in Cairo and instead of fighting for his freedom, Harper’s government has been tip-toeing around. Our ambassador to Egypt actually said “we have to put our faith in the judicial system” - but this is the same system that barbarically sentenced over 1000 people to death. Unless Canada steps in, Mohamed will continue to rot in conditions he called “psychologically unbearable.”
Protecting citizens is a fundamental duty of every state, and with a loud enough call we can get Canada to finally use its clout to help free Fahmy. Click now to join and when we reach 100,000 we’ll deliver our call by bringing a giant jail-cell right to our Foreign Minister’s front door.
