Say no to the Abbot Point project!
This is our opportunity to tell Environment Minister Greg Hunt exactly what we think of the disastrous Abbot Point project and our government’s attempt to fast-track its approval.

Let's send thousands of messages to the official public comment process -- it closes this Thursday at 5pm.

Use the message box on the right to send your submission. You can refer to the talking points below but add your personal touch to make it more powerful, and please remember to be polite:
  • The Queensland Government should not receive approval for dredging and dumping at Abbot Point. It's a major to threat to a National Icon -- the Great Barrier Reef -- as well as the fragile Caley Valley wetlands.
  • Dredging not only threatens the Reef, it also puts our tourism industry at risk -- there must be a proper review, including a full environmental and economic impact study, before the project proceeds any further.
  • There is absolutely no need to fast-track the approval process -- 10 days is not enough for the public to read all the information provided, and the coal mines for which the port is being built are far from receiving sufficient financing.
