Netherlands: let's make our voices heard against Monsanto
This isn’t democracy! Two-thirds of Europeans want to ban Monsanto’s toxic weedkiller and the EU Parliament just voted for tough restrictions, but a leaked proposal from the Commission says they’re about to renew glyphosate for another 10 years anyway!

The Netherlands could have the power to stop this happening, but Agriculture Minister Martijn van Dam is on the fence. A few weeks ago, the Dutch Parliament pushed van Dam to reject the Commission’s shameful proposal, but recently the Minister completely changed his mind, and announced he was ready to accept the re-approval of glyphosate! Experts say the pesticide lobby is behind his U-turn, and public pressure is the only way to make him reconsider.

Let’s flood minister van Dam with messages to ensure he puts our health and food first. We have very little time before the new EU vote. Use the box on the right to send an urgent message now to Minister van Dam. Below are some talking points to use as guide but the more personal you can make it the more impact it will have:
  • I am one of 1.4 million people including over 40,000 Dutch citizens urging you to use your leadership and influence with the Commission now, and object to the renewal of glyphosate.
  • I am extremely concerned because leading UN cancer scientists say it probably causes cancer, and I cannot be sure how much I’m exposed to it as it is used so extensively everywhere in our food, parks and playgrounds.
  • Leading scientists and experts have criticised the EU regulatory process as flawed because it mainly based its assessment to greenlight the pesticide on science from the chemical companies themselves.
  • The Netherlands must join France, Italy and others in refusing any proposal compromising our health and our environment.
  • Our representatives at the Dutch Parliament made it clear that the people want to protect their health and environment first, and the industry’s interests second.
