Free Mauritania's anti-slavery leader
To Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz, President of Mauritania:
As citizens of the world, we believe that modern slavery must be entirely abolished in all its forms. Biram Dah Abeid is a progressive anti-slavery fighter, whose work is crucial to end this horrific practice in Mauritania. We ask you for Biram and his colleagues' immediate and unconditional release and for the legal recognition of the IRA association so that they can carry on their activities in the country.

There are half a million slaves in Mauritania, and Biram is the man who leads the country’s anti-slavery movement. For many in the ruling class, like the President, he’s become a powerful rival. And with many of the country’s judges connected to the President and the slave industry, it’s no wonder that Biram is behind bars. But there’s a plan to free Biram that’s worked before -- massive public pressure directly on the President.
If we build a petition calling for Biram’s release and shaming the country’s slavery apologists -- and pressure Mauritania’s western allies to do the same, we can win this brave man’s freedom and strike a critical blow against one of the last bastions of slavery in the world. Sign now.
