Pakistan: End the right to kill women

To Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and all Pakistani Parliamentarians:

We urge you to immediately pass the Anti-Honor Killings Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill 2014 in the Parliament or a similar bill that closes the forgiveness loophole for honour killings, and to make sure all perpetrators of honour killings are brought to justice. We also urge the government to launch a major education campaign to spread awareness about the consequences of committing such brutal crimes against women including by setting up infrastructure that enables women to seek protection.

Pakistan: End the right to kill women
After Saba married the man she loved, her own father shot her in the head, stuffed her in a bag and dumped her in a river. He walked free because of a loophole in Pakistani law that gives men the right to murder women! But, incredibly, Saba survived and she has created a ray of hope that could finally stop these so-called "honour" killings. Now we have five days to help her.

Saba’s story is all over the news because it’s an Oscar-nominated documentary. The Pakistani PM just committed to end these heinous crimes for the first time. And Maryam, his powerful daughter, and girls right’s champion, is overseeing amendments to the law right now. But activists fear that the bill will only be passed if the Oscar buzz is massive and public pressure is sustained.

Let's urgently build a massive petition that reaches Oscars viewers around the world. To win, we need everyone to sign and then also recruit fans of the Oscars who might not see this email. Sign now and use the tools on the next page to share on Facebook, Twitter, email... and directly with everyone you know who would want to join this campaign.
