As citizens shocked by the facts brought to light by the Panama Papers, we call on you to immediately take action to shut down tax havens and hold those implicated to account. To do so, it is crucial you implement a smart, comprehensive 3-point plan that focuses on:
  • Transparency - Expose the owners of secret companies through public registers
  • Adequate laws - Fix the legal regimes to eliminate lax rules and loopholes
  • X amnesty - Zero impunity for tax evaders, ensure the enforcement of tax laws

I just sent my tax payment to the government. But you know who didn’t pay their fair share? Huge swathes of the top 1% wealthiest people in society whostash their cash in offshore tax havens. It’s disgusting!

Every year we lose hundreds of billions of dollars that should go to build schools and hospitals, and invest in clean energy -- all because tax dodgers refuse to pay what they owe. This is massive and it’s gone on for too long. But the Panama papers just exposed their names and locations, and now we finally have the chance to turn the tide against this madness.

It’s not going to be simple to fix this corrupt system, but the world's most powerful economies are finally feeling the pressure to act: five European countries have taken the lead and agreed to anti-secrecy measures. Now it’s up to us to overwhelm key world leaders with a massive call urging them to join this initiative and build on it by endorsing a three-point plan to end secrecy, hold tax dodgers and criminals to account, and shut these tax havens down for good.
