Akumal Beach Resort aka Akumal Bay Resort & Spa in Akumal, Mexico
I have been a turtle conservationist in Akumal for the past three years. I, and many other turtle conservationists and volunteers have personally seen many nests on Akumal beach, and have photos as proof that this is in fact a very active nesting ground.
Things are seriously out of control in Akumal due to conflict of interest as you will see in the video.

During the recent renovations of Akumal Beach Resort - now known as Akumal Bay Resort & Spa, the owner had roughly 30+ palapas built to the north and south of their main beach area - prime nesting grounds. These palapas were built very close to the waters edge, and are closely spaced, leaving very little room for turtles to lay their eggs.

These were allowed to be constructed because false information was provided to the Government authorities, by Centro Ecologico Akumal (CEA). CEA is an organization that was founded to protect the very things they are destroying - the nest habitat for hundreds of green and loggerhead turtles. CEA states in their documentation that the turtles do not nest on this beach, which is completely false information. The owner of Akumal Bay Resort, also happens to be the President of Centro Ecologico Akumal, which provided the report to Semarnat.

Please watch this video for a full view of what is going on in Akumal Mexico and why the turtles and bay are in serious danger.
