Call for Norway's biggest political party Arbeiderpartiet to stop a planned environmental disaster in the Norwegian fjords! The Norwegian government has allowed dumping of 300 million tons of waste from a planned rutule mine in Førdefjorden, one of Norway's cleanest fjords, on the West coast, but Arbeiderpartiet is in a position to stop this in a meeting in the parliament on Tuesday.
Please sign and help reversing this decision that is potentially devastating to the life in the fjord!

On 17 april 2015, the Norwegian government with political parties Høyre and Fremskrittspartiet gave permission to the dumping of in total 300 million tons of waste in Førdefjorden on the Western coast of Norway from a planned rutile mine in Engebøfjellet. That means dumping of 11 tons of microscopic particles and chemicals every minute for 50 years, that will cover the seabed and destroy all life in the area. Førdefjorden is one of Norway's cleanest fjords, and an important spawning ground for salmon and several other endangered species. The Norwegian Ministry of climate and environmental protection adviced against the plans in November 2014, and what has been called the biggest planned environmental disaster in Norway's history has gained considerable attention both in Norway and abroad. 60 local companies with activities related to seafood and tourism has said no to the plans because the potential devastation of the fjord could be disastrous to their sustainable industries. Several political parties in Norway's parliament Stortinget is also against the plans along with a number of environment protecting organisations, and more than 50 political parties from 37 European countries has condemned the decision. So far, this has not made the Norwegian government change their minds.

But there is one last hope that the plans can be changed:

Tomorrow , on monday 2 June, the Norwegian parliament will vote on a proposal to consider more environmental friendly solutions to handle mineral waste in general, and that this should apply to the rutule mine in Engebøfjellet in particular. To get the majority in the parliament, the proposal only needs the votes of Norway's biggest party Arbeiderpartiet, which is in a unique position to save not only the environment, but also jobs related to seafood and tourism, and national reputation. If the case can get enough international attention before tomorrow, maybe Arbeiderpartiet will be aware of this very big opportunity to prevent this planned natural disaster.
