Prime Minister, Minister for Tourism, Parliamentary Secretary for Culture and Local Government.
The Ministry for Tourism has confirmed that the National Museum of Fine Arts will move back to Auberge d'Italie. We thank you for your support and for being great champions for arts and culture!

Back Home enjoys national and international support and strongly reflects Government’s objectives to strengthen the cultural sector. Auberge d'Italie was the original site of the museum and the move will ensure that Malta’s National Collection and international works can be exhibited and reinterpreted in an accessible and engaging experience for all. We believe that the relocation to a larger, more open and centrally located space will enhance Malta’s cultural offering. The museum experience of the 21st century fuses learning with leisure and showcasing with virtual interaction. However, to enhance these cultural experiences and develop new audiences we need to invest in our cultural infrastructure. Unfortunately, the Museum’s current location will limit this growth and the potential to capitalize on current investments. With economic data revealing a higher return on investment for every Euro spent on heritage, it is evident that better museum experiences yield much more added value than standard offices. These can be easily relocated without any negative impact on the tourism sector.

We sincerely hope that good judgment will prevail and that the decision is revoked to ensure that Malta, the Maltese and all our visitors will be given a diverse, innovative and accessible cultural experience that meets our aspirations for 2018.
