Caribbean Governments: STOP DOMINICAN REPUBLIC APARTHEID AGAINST DOMINICANS OF HAITIAN HERITAGE
Jouvay A.
started this petition to
Caribbean Governments
The Dominican Republic proposes to deport - by June 17th 2015 - hundreds of thousands of its citizens of Haitian heritage, further to a ruling by its courts that retroactively revokes the citizenship of some 300,000 Haitians who were born/living in the Dominican Republic since 1929.
Jouvay Ayiti sees this as an affront to regionalism, and the institutionalising of apartheid in the Caribbean.
Jouvay Ayiti believes that this ruling and action can be repealed if pressure is put on the Dominican Republic.

In November 2013, Jouvay Ayiti took strong objection to the ruling by the Dominican Republic's courts to revoke the citizenship of Dominicans of Haitian descent born/living in the DR since 1929. In response to this Jouvay Ayiti petitioned the DR Ambassador’s office in Trinidad and the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Kamla Persad Bissessar, who was Chair of CARICOM at the time (see link here: http://goo.gl/msHCIZ and http://goo.gl/P9m88z).
The mas action was complemented by a lecture on the issue from Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Hon. Dr. Ralph Gonsalves. Within days CARICOM issued a response (see here: http://goo.gl/7d7XlG).
Today, the DR has revamped its efforts, and are proposing to deport hundreds of thousands of Dominicans by June 17th 2015 (see here: http://goo.gl/80OjjH and http://goo.gl/AaLVul). This is within the next 2 days.
Jouvay Ayiti is thus re-issuing this urgent call to Caribbean people, all those globally who share this concern, and CARICOM governments to pressure the Dominican Republic to revoke this ruling and action, that would render some 300,000 Dominicans of Haitian descent, stateless!
Jouvay Ayiti is also calling on all signatories, and right thinking people to:
- BOYCOTT THE DR, AND DR PRODUCTS;
- SIGN, SHARE THIS PETITION WIDELY;
- EMAIL, AND POST THE PETITION TO THE ONLINE PAGES (FACEBOOK, TWITTER ETC.) OF YOUR LOCAL DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND HAITIAN EMBASSY/CONSULATE, AS WELL AS TO THE PAGES OF KNOWN HAITIAN ‘SYMPATHIZERS’.
Jouvay Ayiti will submit updates of this petition to the Chair of CARICOM, Hon. Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister of The Bahamas; itself a Caribbean state that has historically had issues with stigmatizing Haitian immigrants (see here: https://goo.gl/cKQghf).
Thanking you in advance for your support.
