Four Northern Bald Ibises shot within 60 days, in different regions of Italy, more than one sixth of the birds that were present in Italy at the time. Even higher rates of illegal hunting are already known from the past.

The LIFE&plus reintroduction project has cooperation agreements with the large Italian hunting organizations. An Italian hunter who shot two NBIs has recently been convicted. But all this could not stop illegal hunting on NBIs.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg&excl
In other endangered bird species the rate of illegal hunting is probably even higher.

Shooting of the NBI does not have any tangible benefits . It is a thoughtless "leisure activity", a "sport", where lives are annihilated, animals are tormented, and animal species are substantially endangered.

The shooting of these birds also causes considerable economic damage for the project operators and the European Union.

It also has a lasting effect on the international image of Italy . But in particular, it substantially damages the image of the Italian hunting associations and of the honest and responsible hunters .

Legislative and executive measures should be developed and implemented.

Reason for Hope for the Northern Bald Ibis and other endangered species must be ensured&excl
