A recent study in
Environmental Science & Technology Journal
shows that there is a high likelihood of various types of salt being sold not only in China but world wide with significant amounts of micro- plastic contaminants in them. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acs.est.5b03163?journalCode=esthag
A person consuming recommended (by WHO) 5 grams of salt per day is likely to be ingesting 1000 micro-plastic particles each year.
Plastic is not food and shouldn't be fed to the public. Furthermore, it has proven to have hormone- disrupting and other negative effects on human health, therefore it is of a paramount importance to ensure that the public feels safe when consuming basic nutritional substances such as salt.
Please ensure tests are being done on the salt being sold in the UK supermarkets to ensure it is safe for the consumption!
