- crea opportunità̀ di scambio interculturale e intergenerazionale per tante persone da tutto il mondo;
- sede di molte attività, gratuite e aperte a tutti, basate sullo scambio del proprio tempo e sulla promozione di cittadinanza attiva;
- “casa” di molte associazioni socio-culturali che si occupano di immigrazione, infanzia, stili di vita sostenibili, questioni di genere, promozione culturale, etc.;

1) Chiediamo che La Città dell’Utopia possa continuare le sue attività all’interno del Casale di via Valeriano 3F, senza interruzione;
2) Chiediamo al Municipio VIII e al Comune di Roma una concessione diretta che riconosca il valore del progetto e la sua storia;

English version.

Yet another social project and shared cultural space in Rome is at the edge of a closure.

The huge amount of people are involved in many activities realized in the social and friendly place, the laboratory of sociality and community. Today, after 12 years of activity, “La Città dell'Utopia” can be constrained to close its doors.

1. Where?
“Casale Garibalidi” in San Paolo, Rome, the whereabouts of the social project “La Città dell'Utopia”

2. Who?
For 12 years “La Città dell'Utopia” is a project of Service Civil International which creates:
- the possibility of intercultural and intergenerational exchange for people from all over the world;
- the space for many activities, open and free for everyone, based on sharing of one's personal time and the idea of active citizenship;
- “home” for many socio-cultural associations engaged in the issues of immigration, childhood, sustainable lifestyles, gender issues, promotion of culture and many others!
- the open space for local and international community which represents the alternative way of living in the city.

3. What?
Destroy the Utopia?
La Città dell'Utopia is one of 860 real estates in the municipal property on which the Resolution 140 from 30th of April imposes the participation in the tender for the assignment.
We and many others are under the real risk to be ejected and replaced by something what can “make” better for the municipality.
Conceivably in September, when the tender will be published, the real estates have to be “vacated”.
In fact, the formulation of the competitive tender does not take into account the history of this place, which was built, projected, imagined and realized by the people who have animated “La Città dell'Utopia” during these long years.

By this petition:

1. We ask for the permission  to continue the activities of “La Città dell'Utopia” without a stop in the house at the address: via Valeriano 3F, Rome, Lazio, Italy.
2. We ask the Municipality VIII and the Government of Rome to provide the direct contract which recognizes the value and the history of the project;
3. We consider to be necessary that this contract guarantees the maintenance of the essence of the project: the full accessibility for the local and international communities.
