Dear Daily Mail and DMG Media,

My name is Stamatis-Steve Karagiannis and I am the owner and lead
campaigner/protester of the Facebook page Kos is a Paradise Not a Hellhole. https://www.facebook.com/KosNotAHellhole
One of your journalists (Hannah Roberts) with permission from your
publisher and editor, published an article detailing the immigration situation on
Kos Island, Greece. An article like this, naming and shaming a beautiful
little island like Kos, just as the summer season opens has already had
an immediate negative impact on hotel reservations and as you can
imagine a significantly high volume of cancellations! Ms Roberts stated
that "Kos Island is a HELL HOLE for tourists." We ask, how do you, as a
trusted tabloid allow these false allegations to be published? The
residents have done nothing but help these poor refugees as much as they
can, with the limited resources they have. We ask for nothing in return
from them. Lets not forget about the economic state Greece is in and
that has had an enormous effect over the past 2 years on popular
destinations such as KOS. The residents are not the people making money,
blackmailing these people with their lives, then sending them out to
sea in unsafe and overloaded vessels. All the residents have done is
offer them somewhere safe to sleep while they wait for the paperwork to
be prepared for them to go to Athens and other EU countries. There are
locals donating what they can, clothes, food, nappies, water,
shelter...yes the abandoned hotel you made out as a "HELL-HOLE" is old
but unfortunately that is all we have got to offer them. In these hard
economic times we opened our home to them and are giving them a hand in
any way we can. Locals are actually going out of their way to help these
poor refugees! This island has had overall an outstanding holiday
destination reputation and we demand it to be restored!
We expect a restored article or an open letter of apology to the citizens of Kos Island .
