Between January 1st and September 30th 2017 some 8090 civilians were killed or wounded in Afghanistan . The UN reclassified Afghanistan from ‘post‐conflict’ to ‘active war’ a few months ago, and the Global Peace Index 2017 classifies Afghanistan as the 2nd most dangerous country on earth , surpassed only by Syria. We unite against deportations to Afghanistan for a simple reason&colon Afghanistan is not safe.

Pandering to rising anti‐immigrant sentiments, European governments are ignoring the actual situation in the country and are sending increasing numbers of Afghan refugees back. The EU sent 3260 people back to Afghanistan in 2015 . In 2016, the number almost tripled, 9460 people were deported. Far from being ignorant of the dangerous situation in Afghanistan, EU agencies have acknowledged Afghanistan’s “worsening security situation and threats to which people are exposed,” as well as the “ record levels of terrorist attacks and civilian casualties ”. However, they have callously insisted that “ more than 80,000 persons could potentially need to be returned in the near future.

This is not just the Europe of the rising Right. This is our Europe too. Europe must be more than a border behind which special interests are served. We demand that our politicians adhere to European values and uphold Human Rights. Stop deporting Afghans today.

I n 2016 is het aantal bijna verdrievoudigd&colon 9460 mensen werden gedeporteerd .
