The tide has turned. More and more people view the practice of keeping highly intelligent, social cetaceans in captivity and forcing them to perform for profit, as a form of slavery.
In 1970, at just 4 years old, Lolita was captured and taken from her family pod of killer whales in the waters off Washington state . She has spent the past 44 years in a sub-standard tank at the Miami Seaquarium, performing daily while being denied an orca companion and much needed shelter from the sun. A science-based, carefully designed retirement plan is already in place to return Lolita to her native waters. Furthermore, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) recently declared that Lolita is an endangered species , just like the pod of Southern Resident Orcas (her family) that still swims free!
We call on the CEO of Palace Entertainment, owners of the Miami Seaquarium, to LET THE GIRL GO HOME! She deserves to retire safely in her native waters, near her family.
