Governments allowing the slaughter of donkeys for the sale of their skins
Here in South Africa our SPCA is prosecuting those
found to have stolen a lot of donkeys and to have brutally killed them for their
skins, some have even been skinned alive.  But the more this is publicized, the more apparent it becomes that this is a worldwide problem which has been going on for some time. There are several strong points
to be made&colon

  • Cruelty to any
animal debases the person who inflicts it.
There is a close relationship between human abuse and animal abuse.
  • Donkeys have a value
which far exceeds that of their skins (and also their meat, for which they
are also sadly sold in some parts of the world).
  • The difficulty
is that this is seldom if ever reflected in the selling and buying prices
    of donkeys.
  • Of all our
domestic animals, and being the most long&dashlived and disease&dashresistant,
donkeys contribute a value far in excess of price.
  • Millions of
poor people around the world depend on donkeys for household economic
support, particularly in their role as transport for goods and people.  Donkey theft is a threat those human
    lives.
  • The better we
know them, the more we find that donkeys can contribute&colon in therapies for
damaged humans, in tourism, in stock and environment protection.
  • Their
intelligence and readiness for work are remarkable qualities that should
    not be wasted
Have a close look at what donkeys can really do, and revise opinions of their value.
