His Holiness, the Pope
Holy Father,
We humbly address Your Holiness to express our concerns for all of God’s creatures great and small to respectfully request your consideration and support for the millions of fur bearing animals that are exploited each year by a billion dollar global fur industry that endorses cruelty for vanity. The world is inhabited by billions of people who devoutly follow the dogmas of the Catholic Church of which you have supreme and universal power over. The Catholic people respect and follow your teachings, however, many are yet to learn that animals feel the same pain and sorrows as human beings. Thus, we ask you Your Holiness, as the representative of Christ on earth, to enlighten your people so that the word of God will not be weakened by the pull of futile vanity. For, who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of heaven&quest (Job 35&colon11) ‐ As written in Job 12&colon10&colon In His hand is the life of every creature.

We come to you to implore you to intercede against the most unnecessary exploitation and cruelty to God's creatures by informing your followers of the most ungodly and unnecessary cruelty for vanity. We refer to fur bearing animals raised for fur on fur farms as well as those trapped in the wild. The victims of the fur trade, raised on fur farms or trapped in the wild, are cruelly treated and inhumanely killed by those who consider nothing else other than their enrichment which is based on the exploitation and cruelty inflicted on God's creature. For example, China which is responsible for 85&percnt of the fur trade worldwide, also raise millions of animals for fur, including fox, raccoon dogs, minks, cats and dogs. When it is time to “harvest” their fur, the animals are ripped out of the cages with large metal tongs clamped around their neck, then grabbed by their hind legs and thrown against the floor, smashing their heads in an effort to stun them. The workers then proceed with the skinning regardless of the animal being killed or not as their only concern is to remove their pelts, and their priority is to be productive, that is, slaughter and prepare as many animals as are assigned by their employers. Ethics are never taken into account. The industry's primary concern is to conserve the fur quality, and the expenses kept as low as possible so as not to interfere with their profits. Therefore, animals are not to be shot so as not to damage the pelts, and humane euthanasia is out of question because it would mean extra expenses. After being severely beaten, or electrocuted, the animals are hung on hooks, skinned alive with a knife, then thrown onto a pile of dead and dying animals where they live their last five to ten minutes bleeding to death and undergoing unimaginable pain. Fur animals raised on fur farms worldwide do not fare any better. Even in Scandinavian countries which prided themselves on “ethical” fur farms had that myth debunked by concerned citizens in their countries who after numerous investigations, proved that animals raised for fur in their countries also suffered cruel mistreatment and their deaths no less cruel than anywhere else as they too are kept in small, dark wire cages where they become distressed and deranged, they self‐mutilate until they eventually suffer a brutal demise by either anal electrocution, gassing, or by breaking their necks.

The fur industry also uses what they call “wild fur,” which means fur animals are trapped in the wild and killed by trappers who stomp on their necks or cave in their skulls all so the pelts aren't damaged. When snared, animals often dislocate joints, break teeth, or chew off limbs in an attempt to break free. Countless trapping licenses are issued to individuals each year, and sadly many expose their children to this barbarity, compromising them emotionally and psychologically by teaching them that taking a life is acceptable.

The other, and little‐known dark side of the fur industry is that it is immensely polluting. The production of fur requires the use of some of the most toxic chemicals known to man, many of which are cancer causing, and all of which are being released into the environment, polluting the earths air and waterways. These chemicals not only affect the often‐impoverished workers who are employed in sweatshops and factories, but also consumers and wearers of fur, as chemical laden furs can remain toxic for decades. Your Holiness, it is in light of the information provided that we implore you as a leader of Christ to speak on behalf of God’s creatures.
Respectfully,
The undersigned
