Karel de Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade

The Thai seafood industry continues to profit from modern-day slavery. Deceived, trafficked and mistreated, workers are forced to toil for years on end, often without pay - but with EU trade deals currently being negotiated, we can apply enough pressure for Thailand to finally halt these practices.

A recent UN survey showed that 57% of seafood workers in Thailand's main seafood processing region had experienced forced labour. More than one-third had been trafficked.

For years Thailand has ignored international calls for meaningful action to combat modern-day slavery. But with lucrative trade deals being negotiated, the EU has the power to force Thailand to address the issue if they want to sell seafood in Europe.

Together we can call on the EU to put its human rights principles into practice and suspend the Free Trade Agreement talks until the Thai Government takes effective action to tackle modern-day slavery.

If enough of us join, we will deliver it to EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht and call upon him to halt the negotiations until Thai seafood is no longer 'slavefood'. Sign now!
