The fight against puppy mills starts with the fight for licensing of dog breeders.
The government of Manitoba, in the person of Wayne Lees the province's chief provincial veterinarian officer, said there were problems with licensing inspections and as a result suspended the requirement for licensing for Dog Breeders.
Dog Breeder licencing is one of the most important tools in the fight against Puppy Mills, as it enforces a minimum standard of care for the animals used in breeding and their babies. Removing licensing for breeders will spread the puppy mills industry and its cruel practices.
The fight against puppy mills starts with the fight to reinstate licensing. Most provinces enforce it, we should too.
