Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights: To acknowledge the breach of human rights in the Calais"Jungle"

This is important as peoples basic human rights are compromised on European soil with no representation and their health is at risk.

This is an urgent appeal on behalf of 10 people who are on hunger strike in the Calais "Jungle" in France, in a desperate appeal against human rights breaches concerning the right to protection against inhumane and degrading treatment and lack of provision of adequate shelter as the demolition of the camp continues.
The hunger strike started on the 1st March 2016 and more people will join them until the UN or OHCHR respond to the situation.
The decision by the Lille tribunal on 25th February 2016 to begin clearing the Southern section of the Calais camp has significant implications for the 3455 vulnerable refugees living there,305 of those being unaccompanied minors many of whom face the severe risk of becoming destitute, due to lack of provision for adequate shelter and the demolition of makeshift homes.
Following the ruling that the move was to be humane the camp was lined with riot police carrying shields, gas canisters and masks, and residents were given little warning in advance, leaving many with no alternative accommodation to move in to.

We are calling upon a representative of the UN or OHCHR to come and asses the situation and witness the breach of human rights.
