Ontario Attorney General John Gerretsen: Charge Paulo Figueiredo For WILFULLY Neglecting 26 Dogs
Under Ontario SPCA Act:
Definition – immediate distress
(8) For the purpose of subsection (6),
“immediate distress” means distress that requires immediate intervention in order to alleviate suffering or to preserve life.
11.2 (1) No person shall cause an animal to be in distress.
Permitting distress
(2) No owner or custodian of an animal shall permit the animal to be in distress.
We call on Crown Attorneys to proceed by way of an indictable offence in the case of alleged animal cruelty against the 26+ Eurohound Waterford dogs and ask that, IF Paulo Figueiredo is found guilty of one or more of the charges, Crown recommend to the judge at least a minimum sentence available under the law and the honourable sentencing Judge in the Ontario Court of Justice apply any sentence available for these offences, including a lifetime ban on owning animals. We also request that, if Paulo Figueiredo is found guilty, the court, in accordance with Section 447.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, “make an order prohibiting the accused from owning, having the custody or control of or residing in the same premises as an animal or a bird” for the rest of his lifetime.
