The proposed bill 075 2016 CR Law that declares as a Public Need and of Preferential National Interest the Sustainable Development of the Province of Purús Prioritizing the Terrestrial Connectivity by Congressman Carlos Tubino seeks the multimodal connection of the province of Purús with the rest of the country. Although the area already has flights to Pucallpa and Puerto Maldonado. The Purús is part of the complex of indigenous reserves for indigenous peoples in isolation and initial contact (Mashco Piro, Madre de Dios, Nahua Kugapakori Nanti and Murunahua) and protected areas (Manu National Park, Alto Purús National Park, Purús Communal Reserve). The indigenous organizations Federation of Indigenous Communities of Purús FECONAPU, Regional Organization AIDESEP Ucayali ORAU and the Interethnic Association for Development of the Peruvian Jungle AIDESEP consider that the State should declare the area as a Corridor for the Protection of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Contact Initial. The existence of these indigenous peoples in the Purús occurs in the last four and a half million hectares of Mahogany (Swietenia Macrophylla) in the Amazon. The area has the highest density of Mahogany per hectare. The indigenous peoples of the Purus can responsibly handle the mahogany seed trade to reforest the Amazon. Let us avoid ending the life of indigenous peoples in isolation and initial contact and the Mahogany that are part of their forest. We ask the President of Peru to exercise the right of veto in case of approval of Bill 00075/2016-CR Law that declares as a Public Need and of Preferential National Interest the Sustainable Development of the Province of Purús Prioritizing the Terrestrial Connectivity.
