Portuguese Parliament
The Portuguese Parliament will soon be voting for a draft bill that permits the consumption and cultivation of cannabis, and also the establishment of non-profit social clubs for it's consumption by adults.

A similar draft bill went to vote in 2013 and was declined by parliament. This petition and your comments may help our representatives find the support they need to finally take action and change outdated laws.

Seven good reasons:

1. Protects consumers, The current legislation in Portugal allows consumers to possess Marijuana but they must resort to the illicit market to acquire it. There is no way of assuring the composition or quality of the product being purchased.

2. Fights drug traffic and related illicit activities, including the financing of terrorist cells in the north of Africa.

3. Promotes education, breaking the taboos of Marijuana consumption allows for efficient education by parents and schools, as is presently done with alcohol and tobacco.

4. Creates jobs, recent legislation in countries like Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, USA and Uruguay have shown that controlling the sale of Marijuana has a positive impact on the economy by creating tax paying jobs.

5. Medicinal purposes, too numerous to mention.

6. Freedom of choice, adults should be able to choose to consume or not Marijuana in the same way they choose over legal drugs such as alcohol and tobacco.

7. The many uses of its byproducts, fuel, paper, food, rope, maps, clothes, nets, lace, soap, sails, shoes, plastics, explosives, caulking, fiberboard, paint, sealant, methanol, gasoline, fiber for fuel, bricks, charcoal, auto bodies, packing mass, lubricants, oil for lighting, oil for fuel, oil for lights, animal food, furniture, mats, varnish, lotions, ointments, lacquer, salad dressings....
