New Hope came to Acland about 13 years ago and scared away all the people in the town except one land owner who still remains. They bought up hundreds of farms and now own huge anounts of land for coal mining. Some how we have managed to save the park in the town and the war memorial . Last week we had a wonderful day where the town signage was restored including the first tidy towns winner sign . Lots of people came to this day from all over the place proving that you can you can demolish houses, destroy people’s livelihood, damage their health, tear at their hearts ,degrade the environment but you can’t break their spirit.
Even if a small glimmer of hope is still there the spirit of a community will survive and thrive and so it is with Acland. Some of the people of the Acland community reside outside the Acland CBD but I venture to say that the Acland community is one of the strongest and fastest growing in Australia such is the growing support for the desire to save good farming land for future generations
If we can't stop the next stage of mining which will destroy even more land and people's lives we can't stop any mining in Australia despite what mining does to the planet
