No Business Development in Wascana Park!

Our beloved Wascana Park, “the Jewel of Regina,” is being commercialized. A deal has already been made to allow Conexus Credit Union to construct an 80,000 square foot head office adjacent to Darke Hall.
Once the door is open for business, it will not be easily kept closed to others. Brandt Industries is already working on a plan to construct a large commercial office building to replace the Canadian National Institute for the Blind building on the east side of the Park. It is also rumored there are plans to sell land west of Hillsdale Blvd and east of the new Arboretum for commercial development. Where will it stop&quest
The Provincial Capital Commission ("PCC") is not following its own stated principles. In the PCC Act, the Wascana Centre Master Plan is to be followed. Within that Master Plan, there are to be public consultations for any major amendment to that Plan. Clearly this has not happened as there has been no meaningful forum for public participation regarding these developments in the Park. The 1962 Wascana Centre Authority Act, legislation concerning the purpose and mandate of the Park recently repealed by the provincial government, clearly intended that there would never be commercial development in the Park.
Wascana Park is a publically funded, public resource. We must stop its commercialization. Sign this petition and let the provincial government know we do not want our treasured park commercialized.
