Executive Mayor: Memory Booysen. Bitou Municipality, Western Cape, South Africa., The Premier of the Western Cape: Helen Zille, member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and leader of South Africa's Democratic Alliance political party
This project keeps coming back. First proposed 15 years ago to create a harbour for the commercial fishing boats in the bay - it just won't go away (unlike the fishing boats who all left along with all of our fish).

The supposed developers are an American and Peter Ahern, who is director of 8 companies, none of which has a website. Peter is also director of no less than 18 deregistered companies, and of 2 companies in voluntary liquidation - so where is he getting the billions of Rand needed for this project?

As the other director is an American national working as a consulting engineer, the logical conclusion is that Western Cape Marina Investments is merely a front, and that the true backers remain hidden.

Surely the town council or the mayor would know, especially seen as this project is so long in the tooth? Well, they are not telling us. Which makes one wonder why?

Despite the claims, it is very difficult to believe that anyone is in this to: "create jobs for the community" or to increase tourism to Plett. In addition, the legal grounds on which both the developer and the municipality are operating appear to be highly questionable.

Neither the local residents nor the holiday makers want a small boat harbour, and we certainly do not want seven story buildings built along the margins of Central beach and the Piesang Valley river!
