(francais suit)

Fredrick Stoneypoint, a Carleton University student and young land defender from Sagamok Anishinabewk First Nations, was just arrested in Galt, Gaspé, Québec. He was at the reoccupation blockade against Galt 4 &numJunex, a fracking company that is illegally trespassing on Mi'kmaq territory. He came to this blockade as an ally to the Mi'kmaq Nations. Fredrick's right to say no to such harmful development projects on Turtle Island is not only one of his inherent responsibility, but a right that is defined and protected by the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the UN. This declaration has been endorsed by Canada, but it does not show. Indigenous land defenders continue to be criminalized.

Land defenders who are protecting the future generations should be respected, not criminalized. Instead, the company Junex already received 20 millions from the Quebec government. The rivershed that will be directly affected by this development is the St‐Jean river.

Follow Tache d'Huile, JUNEXit and Environment Vert Plus for more details on the blockade. Fredrick's lawyer was contacted.

We demand the immediate release of Fredrick Stoneypoint as well as the dropping of any charges that might have incurred from this arrest.

Fredrick we love you and you are not alone.
