The Amazon Rainforest is the world's greatest natural resource - the most powerful and bio-actively diverse natural phenomenon on the planet. It has long been a symbol of mystery and power, a link between humans and nature. It is also the richest biological incubator on the planet. It supports millions of plant, animal and insect species.
Thanks to the plant species it produces, ethnobotanists have been able to discover drugs like
• Quinine
• Muscle Relaxants
• Steroids
However, there are still countless species to be discovered that may hold the key to cures for
• Aids
• Diabetes
• Arthritis
• Alzheimer’s
The Amazon Rainforest accounts for more than half of the remaining rainforests on out planet. Once long time ago rainforests covered 14% of the earth's land surface, sadly, now they cover just 6%. Some estimates even say that we are losing 137 plant species every single day due to deforestation, species that could potentially be the cure for many of the terrible diseases we are unfortunately forced to confront.
The main reason for the Amazon’s deforestation resides in its use, particularly by the Brazilian government for cattle pasture. Pasturing cattle is a very lucrative business; one that Brazil economy heavily relies on. Areas once overflowing with trees are now flat, grassy plains used for raising cattle. The goal is ask and work with the Brazilian government to help adopt alternative strategies for economic income and food. Possible alternatives could include monetary percentages given to the Brazilian government for medicines requiring plants native to the Amazon. This will be set to Brazil Department of Agriculture and Ecology.
