What is a parklet?  A parklet is a public amenity for use by anyone at anytime. It is a safe place for everybody to use and enjoy.

Reasons for the Regent Road Parklet to remain:
  1. An average of 50 users have been recorded using the parklet during office hours daily
  2. The parklet provides an additional two rubbish bins (one of which is recycling) to the bustling Regent Road
  3. It helps to build a more inclusive city, as some of the most marginalised members of the community use the space
  4. The space provides free WiFi and shade for all
  5. The space has added much needed greenery to the Regent Road edge
  6. The space is used by all members of the community; young and old, across all income groups and ethnicities, even pets!
  7. The space provides a place for people to stop and take a break from the busy street edge; it is the only space of its kind along Main and Regent Road in Sea Point
  8. It represents an innovative private-public collaboration which could be a model for future public spaces
  9. The parklet promotes safer public spaces by encouraging more people to spend time in the space, therefore increasing eyes on the street and therefore increasing safety
  10. There has been zero vandalism recorded on the parklet, which demonstrates that the people using it respect and appreciate it
