Recently the famous lion Cecil died at the hands of trophy hunters. He suffered immensely due to being wounded with an arrow from a bow that did not kill him. He was later shot. Cecil was important because he was a special lion. He was not only seen as the biggest lion in Africa but having sired 5 cubs recently was still able to spread his good genes that is an absolute necessity for the population of African lions. This treasure is now lost.
In South Africa 6000 lions are kept in horrendous circumstances on hunting farms, all destined to die at the hands of so called trophy hunters. Their genes are worthless and they are being bred for commercial value, for quantity and killing.
This is a blotch on the name of South Africa. We can ill afford such a worthless industry causing so much suffering. The revenue from these farms may look big to one person but in the global scheme of economics in SA it is not even a drop in the ocean. It also does very little for the upliftment of the communities surrounding these farms.
South Africa had its fill of this cruelty and the lies spread by the hunting industry.
We demand that South Africa must follow the example of other African countries and abolish these farms, put the lions in safe places and ban all trophy hunting.
