Geneva Aid to War Orphans
The Iraq and Afghanistan war orphans are not provided basic aid such as food, shelter and prosthetics, according to CNN, The Guardian, and Al-Iraqiya, Iraqi TV.
Article 50, Geneva Convention (IV) 1949 obligates an occupying power to ensure "registration (...) maintenance and education (...) of children who are orphaned or separated from their parents as a result of the war”.
There are 5 million war orphans in Iraq alone, according to John Tirman, executive director of MIT's Center for International Studies.
The child in the photo is a 12 y.o. girl from Helmand, Afghanistan, who lost her family in a coalition bombing.
