The Zambian tourist board
The Minister Of Tourism and Arts Jean Kapata has lifted the ban on hunting in 19 hunting blocks with immediate effect. Ms Kapata made the announcement at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Tourism head office in Lusaka on August 21st 2014. She however said that the hunting will be conducted under laid down conditions and strict supervision from ZAWA . But that the ban on big Cats still stands .The decision has been made, according to news reports on the internet, due to a loss of financial gain since the ban was implemented in 2013.
I ask, and on behalf of those signing this petition, that as the ban has now been lifted, does that not give a mixed and unclear message to potential hunters in the area? How will these big cats be protected, even under strict supervision? Won't this directive simply be ignored or flouted, in the name of money?
We ask that this lifting of the ban on hunting in Zambia be reinstated immediately and that the Zambian tourist board do their utmost to think of ways to attract visitors to their country that do not involve putting beautiful endangered cats at risk of death.
